Restaurant Charges “No Tipper” Fee In New York State?
The cost of everything, including dining out, has gone up over the past couple of years, and some people have decided to help alleviate the cost by reducing the amount of money they tip. This has led to a massive debate on tipping and the tipping culture, but what this restaurant might have gone too far, if it is true!
Did Rochester, New York, Restaurant Charge A "No Tipper" Fee?
I saw this post on "X" and the video claims that a restaurant added a "No Tipper" fee to the person's bill. Apparently, according to the video, this person has been to the restaurant several times and leaves a minimal or no tip at all.
It looks like, according to the video, that the staff was fed up with it and charged a "no tipper" fee, which would have been the amount of a decent tip on the bill.
Now I did some research, and I could not find any restaurant named "The Gilded Oyster" in Rochester, New York, or in any part of New York. The only thing that came up on a Google search was a jewelry boutique in Massachusetts.

So, apparently, this video is fake, but it still opens up a good discussion. Should waitstaff expect a good tip no matter what? Isn't tipping optional in restaurants? Should restaurants be allowed to charge a "No Tipper" or "Bad Tipper" fee?
