James Cook Has Diamond Sneakers at Buffalo Bills Training Camp

Football season is back as the Buffalo Bills took the field at St. John Fisher University today. One of the biggest questions entering camp was if running back James Cook would participate. He's looking for a new contract, which he has yet to receive. Many were wondering if he would hold out or show up and do what's called holding in: meaning he'd be there just not doing much.

But, we found out from head coach Shawn McDermott this morning that James Cook will participate fully in training camp. Something head coach Shawn McDermott says he was very pleased to see.

I couldn't be more pleased with James and him being here on time and ready to go. I had a chance to meet him, greet him yesterday, shake his hand, look him in the eye, and he's ready to go. -Sean McDermott

Sure enough, Cook was spotted on the practice field today. News 4 Buffalo's Josh Reed took some video of him in drills, and you may notice his pretty flashy sneakers. They almost look diamond-encrusted. Maybe they are. Take a look.

By the looks of those shoes, Cook may need a raise to pay for them.

All kidding aside, Cook has earned a contract extension as he is in the final year of his rookie deal. The question is how much will it be worth? Some have suggested as much as $15 million, a number the Bills are likely not interested in giving him, but we'll have to wait and see. Cook has had two straight seasons of over 1,000 yards rushing, but last year he had a whopping 16 touchdowns on the ground and two more receiving touchdowns.

Bills training camp runs through Thursday, August 7th, at St. John Fischer University. The team does return home on Friday, August 1st, for the return of the blue and red at High Mark Stadium game. Their first preseason game is August 9th when they host the New York Giants. The Bills open the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football on September 7th.
