Jenn Shur who grew up in Fredonia, New York and won a gold medal at the Olympics for pole vault announced that she is retiring from professional track and field competition.

Shur won her first US National title for pole vault in 2005, just ten months after she took up the sport. She would go on to win 17 US titles in her career, including three US Olympic trials titles. She would be the only US pole vaulter ever to win three US Olympic trials titles.

On top of the US titles, Shur won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, silver medals at the World Athletics Indoor and the Olympics in 2008, the 2013 World Athletics Championships silver medal in 2013, and the Word Athletics indoor gold medal in 2016.

During her career, Shur set 12 American pole vault records and became the first US woman ever to clear the 16-foot and five-meter barriers.

In 2020, Shur was named Pole Vaulter of the Decade by Track & Field News and the Buffalo News named her Western New York's greatest female athlete ever.
