Lake Effect Storm Could Blanket These New York Towns

It looks like most of us escaped snow this Thanksgiving, but that could change this weekend.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Chautauqua County and the area could see anywhere between 6 to 11 inches of snow between today and Saturday morning.

The Lake Effect snow warning is in place for all of Friday and lasts until 7 am on Saturday. Most of the heavier snow total will be in the higher terrain but towns like Jamestown and Stockton could get a nice blanket of snow.

For other parts of Western New York, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place until 7 am Saturday for Southern Erie and Cattaraugus counties. Those areas could see anywhere between 3 to 6 inches of snow with the heavier amount expected in the higher terrains. Some areas could pick up to 9 inches in the heavier snow bands.

With both these warnings, travel in the Southern Tier could be much slower than usual. Gusting winds are expected to be part of the storm system which could lead to white-out conditions on the highways and open roads.  If you are going to be out and about, make sure to give yourself some extra time to get where you are going.

The Northtowns and the Northern Part of Western New York could see just a dusting of snow maybe 1 or 2 inches this weekend.

Of course, this snow will not be enough to have the ski resorts open this weekend. Holiday Valley already announced that it pushed back its opening date from Today until later in December.
