They've been talking about this new entertainment venue coming to the Outer Harbor for a while but now, they've signed off on it and construction is about to begin soon.

We've got some really big venues to hold concerts.  We've got some incredible intimate venues.  But we don't have a lot of outdoor places for live music and events to take place.  But that will hopefully become a thing of the past soon.

The plan is to take an abandoned warehouse that has been unused for 30 years and turn it into something new that people can come and enjoy.  They're going to make it an entertainment venue.  They will also transform some of the surrounding areas into parking areas and open up some space for new views of Lake Erie.

The project has been taken on by The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) for the State of New York.  The goal is to retain the structural skeleton of the building.  They consider it "an opportunity to not only be an environmentally sensitive decision, but also be an opportunity to preserve the history of the site and activate a future use."

“This project, which takes up only 5% of the 200-acre property, is just one part of a comprehensive plan developed over five years with the community and stakeholders. We are thrilled to move forward with the first phase of construction.” - Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation Chairman Robert Gioia

According to WGRZ, the deal has been signed and construction is set to start this fall.  They anticipate that it will be finished and ready to go in the fall of 2023.
