As you may have heard, Mayor Byron Brown has signed a new ordinance saying that individuals under the age of 21 are no longer allowed in Chippewa bars past 10pm every night of the week except Thursdays. The whole idea is to stop underage drinking and violence--which is part of the reason why many people will NOT go down to the Chippewa strip. Me, personally....I have always tried to stay away from the area. I'm more of an Irish tavern drinkin', local bar lovin' type of guy.

The new rule is definitely a step in the right direction, but even if you ......eliminate the youths... many people still won't go down there. Believe me, there are a lot of people downtown in the Chippewa area, who are legally allowed to drink, who will still cause trouble and will possibly sneak minors in. I'm not sure that there is much that anyone can do to change the beast that Chippewa has become.

I applaud the city for trying to make a popular area more appealing to the masses and for trying to get the trouble out, but I believe that the issue is far beyond minors. The issue is over-serving and attitude. Kids drink like fish and bartenders more than likely don't care if you are too drunk or not....they just want the dough. Young adults now a days (ages 21-28) have no tolerance or patience for others....and especially not when they are intoxicated. You bump into someone's girl and you are automatically in an altercation, look at someone too long= automatic confrontation....Get what I'm saying. Not to mention....many young wannabe thugs (who were raised by MTV or BET) hang down there looking for a fight. They get all juiced up by drinking in their at home....then bring their drunk asses downtown looking to start trouble.

Bottom line.....I do think this new rule is a good thing, but it's definitely going to take more than eliminating minors, to get Chippewa to be a nice, fun, friendly place to go and drink!
