I had a chance to speak with the Erie County Executive, Mark Poloncarz today about the Delavan Grider vaccine site. There are more than 7,000 appointments available to have the vaccine administered between March 14 and March 23. However, residents of the 10 zip codes below must set their appointments today. At 8 am tomorrow, March 3, appointments will open up to anyone in Western New York.

Erie County Exeuctive Mark Poloncarz talks about Delavan Grider Vaccine Site

The zip codes are: 14201, 14204, 14208, 14209, 14211, 14212, 14213, 14214, 14215, and 14222.

Residents can find out if they are eligible to set up an appointment to get vaccinated by using the State's 'Am I Eligible' website or by calling the COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-697-4829.

The Delavan Grider vaccination is open and scheduling people who live in zip code areas with low vaccinations, according to Governor Cuomo's website. The site expects to vaccinate 1,000 people per day. The Delavan Grider Community Center site is one of the six community-based vaccination sites that New York State has established. The State is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to create these centers.  Starting Wednesday, March 3, the Delevan Grider vaccination site will be open to any eligible residents of Western New York.

Governor Cuomo said,

"COVID created low tide in America, and all the ugliness, structural racism, injustice and disparity lurking beneath the surface was exposed. We know that communities of color suffered the most and from day one we've made the fair and equitable distribution of the vaccine a priority. With the opening of these sites, we will be making a dramatic impact on some of our hardest-hit communities to further bolster the work we're doing on the ground to get shots in arms. I thank the Biden administration for their partnership in making these locations a reality."

If you missed our COVID-19 Vaccine Town Hall on Saturday, February 20, 2021, we had a panel of experts, who discussed the importance of communities of color getting vaccinated. It was a very informative discussion. We also found out that you will still need to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines after you get your vaccination.

You can also check out our comprehensive list of pharmacies and other locations in Western New York that are offering vaccinations. Please call ahead as there is no guarantee they have any appointments available.
