You have heard the term “twinlepathy” before…if not, it’s a term a lot of twins use to show their unique bond and similarities. Although these twins will go through life together, sharing a lot of things together, their birthday will not be one of those things.

The set of twins, named Aylin and Alfredo Trujillo, were born just 15 minutes apart at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California, but due to the timing of their births, they were born on different days, months, and years.

Alfredo Antonio Trujillo was born first at 11:45 p.m. on December 31, 2021, but his twin sister, Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, did not arrive until just after midnight on January 1, 2022. This also made Aylin the first baby born at the hospital and across their given county in the new year.

Aylin weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces while her brother Alfredo weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

The mother, Fatima Madrigal, was surprised by the time separation. “It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” she said.

The twins complete the family of 7, including three older siblings.

According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 120,000 twin births per year in the United States, adding up to about 3% of all births.

However, it is extremely rare for twins to be born with different birthdays, let alone in different months and different years.

You may remember, there was another similar story that happened in Indiana. In early 2020, a family welcomed twins born in different decades, too.

Dr. Ana Abril Arias delivered the twins, and she called their births “an amazing way to start the New Year.”

As someone hearing the story, it makes you think that maybe, just maybe, this is the year where the impossible seems within reach.
