Old Interview of John Candy In Buffalo Reemerges: He Name Drops Cheektowaga [WATCH]

You may know this fun fact about the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and if you don't, you're in luck).

The hit movie that is all about two men trying to make it back home for Thanksgiving was partly filmed right here in Western New York.

Batavia, South Dayton and other areas of Erie and Cattaraugus counties were used for scenes in the movie.

Director John Hughes was looking for a place that "looked" like the midwest (where the movie takes place) but snowier!

Extras were paid $50 for 10-hour days, with time and a half for overtime.

The famous "you're going the wrong way!" scene was filmed somewhere along the 219 -- between Orchard Park and Springville.

Today, I saw an old interview that Mike Randall of WKBW did with one of the stars of the movie, John Candy. It was filmed while Candy and fellow-actor Steve Martin were in town to film scenes for the film.

Candy grew up in Toronto and used to watch local Buffalo television. He even name drops Cheektowaga!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles came out the day before Thanksgiving in 1987 and is a well-quoted comedy from the 80's.

Candy passed away in 1994, but his legacy lives on to this day.

This is easily one of my favorite movies and it's so cool that scenes were filmed in Western New York. Even cooler that John Candy was so fun with locals.
