Today marks the beginning of Chanukah those 8 crazy nights in December where followers of the Jewish Religion celebrate... Kinda like the Catholic Christmas... but not. Chanukah goes from Dec. 16 - Dec. 24 this year.

While you will hear many Chanukah induced references on JACK for the next 8 days, we figure there is no better way to start it off than giving you the artist's you listen to on a daily basis that may or may not celebrate this illustrious holiday. So with out further adieu... lets get this Dreidel spinning!

Lenny Kravitz

loading...

The 90's Rocker who brought us the #2 hit "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" was born to a Jewish Father and a Christian Mother... speculations of Lennys' Religious lines are not clearly drawn.

According to Stevenson, Jane (February 5, 1996)."Bursting Rock's Balloon. Jam!/Canoe. Retrieved November 29, 2007

Lenny identifies as Christian "through choice but I'm also a Jew, it's all the same to me" It's all the same to JACK... as long as we have Fly Away and American Woman to rock out to we are good.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss

loading...

Rock and Roll All 8 Crazy Nights Long. Gene and Paul brought us some great music aver the years... and yes they Identify themselves as Jewish... just think how many groupies had those Matzah Balls at some point.

Donald Fagen of Steely Dan

loading...

Ricki Don't Lose That Menorah. Fagen is a prominent and devout and follower of the Jewish religion. Donald celebrated his bar mitzvah at Kendall Park's Congregation Beth Shalom in 1961, a synagogue his father helped found

Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits

loading...

Probably no stranger to the term Money For Nothing... Mark is what in Yiddish they would call a mentsh an honorable, decent, and authentic person. He does not brag or boast about his faith and he loves his classic cars.

Bob Dylan

loading...

Originally born Robert Zimmerman in Minnesota. Bob Dylan was born in to the Jewish Faith... there is a saying in the faith that "If your Mother is of the Jewish faith... you are too" But in the late 70's during Dylan's gospel period stood as a conversion to Christianity. So.. nosh on that.

J-Geils Band

loading...

This group of Kosher musicians have a crew that have more chutzpah than most. 4 members of the band follow the Jewish faith... but they are no shmucks being that they brought us such hits as Freeze Frame and Centerfold.

David Lee Roth

loading...

We are al widely familiar with DLR's shtick... and not the shtick you thing we're talking about. DLR rocked a solo career as well as fronted one of the most influential bands in rock history... twice. With vocals that could knock you on your tuches or make your head pound with tsuris. Still will always be one of JACK's favorite Dreidel spinning artists

Adam Levine

loading...

As schmaltzy as he may be se has topped the charts for years as the front man of Maroon 5. He's kosher in JACK's book

P!NK

loading...

There is probably no correlation to P!NK's faith and the fact that 2010, she appeared on Forbes The Celebrity 100 list at #27, with earnings of $44 million... but So What! Raise Your Glass and shout Mazel Tav

Billy Joel

loading...

The piano man himself has had a long history of faith. Born int6o a non-observant jewish family Billy took his own stance and is now (at least of 2010) a self proclaimed atheist. According to and interview with Tannenbaum, Rob (July 15, 2001). "Dear Superstar: Billy Joel". Blender. Retrieved November 26, 2010. he stated this.

"My parents were both from Jewish families. I was not brought up Jewish in any religious way. My circumcision was as Jewish as they got. I used to go to Roman Catholic church with my friends, and when I was 11, I got baptized in a Church of Christ in Hicksville. I’m a cultural Jew. I like the Lower East Side humor, the food. I think the Yiddish language is terrifically expressive. Does that make me a complete Jew or a partial Jew? I’m not really sure"

And there you have it a list of Jewish JACK FM artists... yeah we're still wondering why we are broke too... any way Happy Chanukah Mazel Tov to all and to all a good 8 nights. Shalom
