2020 was not a good year at all -- no other way around that. Seemingly every live event, concert, festival, or fair was postponed or outright canceled. That includes the Erie County Fair, which usually takes place every August at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.

However, there was great news for fair-goers in New York State on Monday, and it could bode well for the Erie County Fair happening this year.

According to WKBW, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the New York State Fair will return this August; from August 18th to September 6th.

The State Fair takes place every year in Syracuse, NY and Cuomo said the fair this year will run at 50 percent capacity.

The plan will be to break up the fair into four different areas to better handle crowds and limit a huge cluster of gatherings.

Those four areas will be:

  1. Food and Beverage
  2. Attractions and Rides
  3. Concerts
  4. Agriculture

Western New York residents are wondering, however, does this mean the Erie County Fair will also return for 2021?

The Erie County Fair has yet to announce updates on whether or not the event will go on this August, but considering the 18-day New York State Fair is returning, it's reasonable to assume the Erie County Fair could as well.

I really missed it last year and here's to hoping the Erie County Fair will return in 2021 to the Hamburg Fairgrounds. I know how much it'll mean to so many who attend and organize it.
