Watch Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Halloween Performance at Los Angeles Grade School
Halloween is notorious for tricks or treats, and students at Viewpoint School in Calabasas, Calif. got a little bit of both when the Red Hot Chili Peppers showed up at the grade school's Great Pumpkin Day Assembly yesterday (Oct. 31) for an early morning performance of their hit song "Can't Stop."
Students at the Los Angeles institution were treated to the local funk rockers partially due to Chad Smith's children being attendees at the school. The RHCP drummer took to his official Twitter page following the gig, tweeting, "Who rocks out at 9:30am at my kids’ school?....We do!"
The band came dressed for the occasion too, as can be seen in the clip of the brief concert above. Smith was clad in an outfit befitting a Catholic church pope, albeit with a Guy Fawkes mask for added effect. Frontman Anthony Kiedis casually strode to the stage wearing a schoolboy's outfit, replete with a cardigan over a dress shirt and tie, schoolboy shorts and a masquerade ball mask to top things off. The always eccentric bass player Flea sported dyed pink hair and a skeleton bodysuit while guitarist Josh Klinghoffer appeared to have thrown together a makeshift costume of an over-sized brown suit, bright green wig and sunglasses.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers supported their latest album, 2016's The Getaway, with a massive world tour that made them the 14th highest-earning band of 2017, bringing in $18.5 million dollars through U.S. concert grosses and royalties generated from domestic sales, streaming and publishing in that year.
Back in September at New York Fashion Week, Kiedis told local press that the Chili Peppers were set to begin writing sessions for a new album in a few weeks. Ostensibly, they took a break from the studio to give a bunch of kids a Halloween they'll not soon forget.
