Report: Buffalo Bills Close to Pulling Off Major Trade

Training camp for the Buffalo Bills starts in less than four weeks and before you know it, the regular season will be here in early September.

The free agency period and draft have already taken place, so the Bills roster is all but set for the 2021 season (other than training camp roster cuts). But there is one last piece that has long been rumored to be going to the Bills to help them on offense.

That player could be in Buffalo soon.

According to Philadelphia Eagles play-by-play man Merrill Reese, the Eagles and Bills are close to a deal that would send tight end Zach Ertz to Buffalo.

The report is via New York Upstate's Ryan Talbot.

Reese was a guest on the National Football Show with Dan Silo and said the Eagles are close on a deal with the Bills.

“The word today is that they are very close to a deal and I don’t have any inside information to substantiate this, but the word is that they’re close to a deal with Buffalo for Zach Ertz,” Reese told Sileo. “I believe you have as much chance of being on this roster as Zach Ertz in a few weeks.”

Right now, the Bills' tight ends consist of third-year man Dawson Knox, along with new addition Jacob Hollister and Tommy Sweeney.

Hollister comes from the Seattle Seahawks and was Allen's former college teammate at the University of Wyoming.

Ertz is 30 years old and while he's had injury troubles recently, his production has been outstanding for the Eagles when he's healthy. Ertz has 561 career catches and has been one of the most productive pass-catching tight ends in the NFL during the 2010s.

Hopefully, the Bills don't give up too much if this deal is made, simply because of Ertz' age and injury history. For a win-now team like Buffalo, however, this move makes sense.
