In this day and age, it seems we're all at least a little stressed. However, according to one report, Western New York workers rank high in stress and lack of overall health.

According to WIVB, a report published by the Population Health Collaborative examined the economic impact of poor health for Western New York workers.

Buffalo ranks 22.7 percent with high stress, which is about six percent above the national average.

We rank at 34.3 percent for hypertension, compared to the 27.2 percent national average.

Unfortunately, Buffalo also ranks high in areas like asthma, diabetes, and cancer.

According to the report, not only could this cause a strain on worker productivity but also be a deterrent for new businesses being drawn to our area.

“So, cities that we compared ourselves to if they’re trying to compete for the same jobs and the same investments as Western New York,” said John Craik executive director Population Health Collaborative. “They can say, hey we’ve got a healthier workforce, less costly workforce, our health costs are cheaper than Western New York.”
