Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick officially retired from the NFL on Monday at the age of 39.

Fitzpatrick has played quarterback for nine NFL teams over the course of his 17-year career. He started out with the St. Louis Rams in 2005 as a rookie and ended with the Washington Commanders in 2021.

Fitzpatrick's most time spent with a team was his four years in Buffalo and Fitzpatrick has stated that the Bills were his favorite team to play for in his career.

Fitz played in Buffalo from 2009 to 2012 and took over as the Bills starting quarterback by week 3 of the 2010 season, although he also played towards the end of 2009.

There was speculation that Fitzpatrick would or already had retired as a member of the Bills, but according to Bills GM Brandon Beane, that has not yet happened.

Beane said today at his press conference that they would be open to Fitz signing a one-day contract with the Bills to retire in Buffalo, but added that decision is up to him.

Beane has had conversations with Fitzpatrick about the idea.

One-day contracts have become very popular in sports over the past 20 or so years. Notable or great players who spent years with a team, left to play for another or several others, and decides to sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of a team they loved the most or spent the most time with.

Fitzpatrick might not want to show any favor to the Bills and slight any other team he played for, but he played 55 games for Buffalo and second place is the New York Jets at 30 games.

I think all of Buffalo and Western New York would be in favor of this happening.
