Scary Scam In Canada Could Affect Your Bank Account
One woman in Canada is warning people of a scary scam that is becoming increasingly more common in the Ontario area.
After nearly being tricked into giving up complete and total access to her bank account, Saja Kilani is trying to warn others of her experience so they don’t make the same mistake.
The situation happened in Toronto, and Kilani detailed her experience via TikTok.
While walking down the street, Kilani was stopped by a teenage boy who needed help paying for a cab. The boy told Kilani that the driver only took cards, and he only had cash on him. He allegedly offered to give Kilani the cash if she would offer up her card to pay for the cab.
The teenager showed her the cash, and she obliged by handing her card to the driver.
But things got weird.
“He gave me my card, but I noticed that it doesn’t say my name on it,” Kilani said. “It says somebody else’s.”
Kilani pointed this out to the driver and he allegedly replied with, “Oh, you saw that?” before the teenage boy started laughing and hopped into the car.
This scam has seen a drastic increase over the last month, and it can be easy to fall for, especially when you see that someone else has the cash on them to pay you right back, but it’s not worth losing your debit card over.
While the only known instance for this scam involves ride shares, people are worried that it may begin to involve other daily activities, such as purchasing something from a farmer’s market or paying for something at a gas station.
