Should You Buy Your Snow Tires Now? Yes. Here’s Why.
The first snowfall in Western New York may not be for another few weeks, but you may run into some trouble if you are trying to find snow tires -- which are extremely necessary for our winters.
However, some of the tire shops in WNY have already expressed concern regarding the in-stock supply of snow tires.
Nationwide, there is a shortage of snow tires, and it is especially affecting the tire chains in Buffalo, North Tonawanda, and other locations in Western New York.
The shortage came with some warning, as COVID-19 had a lot of desired products flying off the shelves. However, the shut downs from last year, compounded with disruptions in the supply chain, have been the two main reasons behind the snow tire shortage.
The local tire shops in Western New York that you favor and trust currently have supplies in stock -- for now. Thankfully they ordered their supplies in the masses early, but as with every winter, there will be less inventory available to purchase due to an increased demand of snow tires and there being less of a supply.
This could also lead to higher prices. As of now, the average price for a snow tire is $100-$150, or $250-$600 for a set of four tires. It also depends on your type of vehicle. Regardless, tires are not cheap, and we could see those prices jump even more in the coming weeks.
If you need snow tires for this winter, do not wait. Get them now before they are more expensive and harder to find.
