St. Jude Patient Headed To Space and You Could Win a Seat Next To Her

One former St. Jude patient is getting the trip of a lifetime.

As if it wasn't already out-of-this-world that Hayley Arceneaux beat cancer, and was living as a healthy adult -- she's now on her way to space.

During the Superbowl, you may have noticed an advertisement for regular people -- not astronauts -- to go to outer space.

The project is headed by billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, who's paying SpaceX to make the flight possible.

And he's footing the bill for everyone going on the trip -- which could include you.

A self-described "space geek," Isaacman is enthusiastic about fulfilling his dream for a regular person to go to space, and calls it an important step forward for space travel.

"I decided I was going to go to space when I was 5 [years old]. I was pretty calculated about it at that point, it just took me a little while to get it into motion.” -Jared Isaacman, CNBC

Isaacman, who is the founder of Shift4 Payments, a payments processing company, is also an accomplished pilot. CNBC reports he set a 2009 world record for the fastest light jet around-the-world flight.

He's taking the crew and guests, with some special people making up the trip roster.

Arceneaux is a St. Jude Ambassador. She was treated for bone cancer at St. Jude as a child, and now works there as a physician's assistant.

Business Wire reports there are two remaining seats on the mission still available to the general public until February 28.
One of these will be chosen through a fundraising contest for St. Jude.
