Stones Classic Won’t Be Played Next Time They’re In Buffalo

There have been some classic Rolling Stones concerts through the years here in Buffalo.  1978, 1981,2015…and of course the show that never was in 2020…DAMN YOU COVID!

But there are some things that they all had in common.  They all were at Rich Stadium/The Ralph/New Era Field/Highmark Stadium, and all of the setlists contained The Stones classic track “Brown Sugar”.  But according to the band, the song has quietly been removed from their setlist, and won’t be making a comeback anytime soon.

The band is currently five shows into their “No Filter” tour, and guitarist Keith Richards recently responded to The L.A. Times about the song’s recent departure from the band’s live shows…

 You picked up on that, huh? I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is. Didn’t they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But they’re trying to bury it. At the moment I don’t want to get into conflicts with all of this s—.” He laughed in his signature raspy fashion. “But I’m hoping that we’ll be able to resurrect the babe in her glory somewhere along the track.

The song, which has been performed live over 1,100 times over the last 50 years, is all about the slave trade and opens with the line “Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields. Sold in the market down in New Orleans. Scarred old slaver knows he's doin' all right. Hear him whip the women just around midnight.”

The Stones show that was supposed to happen June 6^th, 2020 during COVID, was left off of their 2021 tour routing and has yet to be rescheduled.
