Despite the country’s diligent precautions, Hurricane Irene left a path of destruction in her wake. It was enough to even scare Spider-Man, who sounded a little intimidated by Irene during this interview with a local ABC reporter. Even superheroes need to evacuate sometimes.

By the time Irene reached New York City this weekend, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Don't tell that to residents, however, especially the 370,000 who were evacuated from their homes. Even though Irene didn't live up to its doomsday hype, transit and travel to and from the city were affected. This of course means what is important to New York City is important to the world, as always.

Now that Irene has come and gone we are starting to see the images of her wake. Heavy damage has been reported all up and down the east coast from North Carolina to Maine. More than 20 deaths have now been attributed to Irene and damage estimates are expected to be in the billions of dollars.

Much of eastern United States is getting ready for the arrival of Hurricane Irene. More than 50 million people live in the projected path of the Category 2 storm, which is expected to make landfall along North Carolina’s Outer Banks on Friday.
