Every day as I walk to and from my car, I pass the Buffalo Public Library's Central Branch, which is just across Lafayette Square from our dumpy little studio. It's clear from the old photo of the Square above that a very pretty, old building used to be where the library stands now -- but what was it?
I know, it seems crazy to say that downtown isn't that different from "the olden days" because, well, it is. For example, there are a lot fewer Model Ts and a lot more boarded-up buildings.
We know Lafayette Square for many things: partying at Thursday in the Square, the location of our dumpy little studio and the colorful visitors to the Square every day. In fact, on my way to the Square's Tim Horton's this morning, I witnessed a mother/daughter cat fight that was about to get ugly.
Oh, great. Now the Occupy Buffalo are parked outside Jack’s Dumpy Little Studio. We don’t care how long they’re out there; we’re not playing their requests. Occupy Buffalo has obtained a city permit, that will make them a permanent fixture in Lafayette Square...
This week is the last Thursday at the Square as the free summer concert series will shift venues after this week to the Erie Canal Harbor Central Wharf. The change in venues has had mixed reviews, but the concert this week will surely say goodbye to Lafayette Square in a proper way.
