Today marks 22 years since the Twin Towers were attacked in New York City.  Here's a way to honor some of those first responders.

Nearly 3000 people were killed in the attacks that day.  Almost 25,000 more were injured and there are still plenty of people living every day with recurring symptoms from the events that occurred that day.

While most people were doing everything they could to get away from those buildings, there were incredibly brave first responders who did the exact opposite.  While everyone was running away, they were running in to help rescue as many people as they could.

The Story of firefighter Stephen Siller

Tunnel 2 Towers has put together a really unique 5k run/walk to help honor those first responders.  It's a foundation that is the legacy of firefighter Stephen Siller who was assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1.  He was set to go golfing with his brothers on 9-11-2001 when he got a call that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.  He called his wife and told her to tell his brothers that he would meet up with them later on the course.

He never made it to play golf that day

The tunnel that he would normally use to get there was already closed by the time he had gotten there.  So instead of giving up, he strapped his 60-pound pack on his back and rushed on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers.  That's where he lost his life trying to save others.

The Tunnel To Towers Walk/Run is coming

This run is meant to trace those steps that Siller took to make it to the towers.
