No one knew what the school year was going to look like as students headed back, but college campuses seem to be getting hit the hardest with positive cases of COVID-19.

A few weeks ago we heard stories from SUNY Oneonta where 100 of their students had tested positive for COVID just days after coming back to college.  Then it was UB announcing that they had 78 positive cases on their campus.  Fredonia came shortly after that with 43 positive cases.

Today, UB has announced that it's 25 new positive cases are student athletes.  The majority of which were on the football team (19) while 5 were on the women's volleyball team and one was on the girls soccer team.  They have all been isolated and are said to be doing well according to UB's athletics director, Mark Alnutt.

As a result, all of those teams have suspended activity.  The football team is going to begin putting into practice health protocols from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Medical Advisory Group for football teams.  This means that the team will be getting tested four times a week.  That includes all coaches and trainers.  If a team shows a positivity rate of 5% or more, the team will have to suspend all activity for at least 7 days.

The 25 students who tested positive were part of 322 students who were tested after someone on one of the teams came forward to express that they were experiencing symptoms that resembled those of COVID-19.
