WNY Road Makes List of ‘Top 5 Most Dangerous Roads’ In New York State

Growing up in Buffalo, you learn about which roads are the most dangerous and which are the busiest. Sometimes, the reason a road is so dangerous is because of how busy it is.

I grew up in North Amherst and later lived in both Cheektowaga and Hamburg, before moving to South Buffalo; which is where I currently reside. Every suburb of Buffalo has its own unique roadway challenges and we're not alone; many dangerous roads are in New York.

Recently, The Ahearne Law Firm PLLC named their top five most dangerous roads in New York State, and one of them is right here in Western New York.

Coming in at number three on their list was Niagara Falls Boulevard, which stretches from Pine Ave. in Niagara Falls, all the way to the City of Buffalo; but its most busy section is widely regarded as Amherst and North Tonawanda, where many businesses are located and numerous plazas and traffic lights are situated.

The deadly part of Niagara Falls Blvd. is that three-mile stretch in Amherst and Tonawanda. According to The Ahearne Law Firm, at least 11 pedestrians have lost their lives here since 2011.

The other roads that made the list in New York State were The Taconic State Parkway (#1), the I-87 from New York City to Montreal (#2), Hemstead Turnpike in Nassau County (#4), and Upper Broadway in Manhattan (#5).

Living just a short drive from the Niagara Falls Blvd. and East Robinson Rd. intersection for the first 20 years of my life, I can definitely say that Niagara Falls Blvd. is very dangerous, as many locals know.

My sister was hit by a car on Niagara Falls Blvd when she was riding her bike and I'm thankful she was able to survive that accident. The numerous traffic lights, no median for much of it, and different crossways make this road a nightmare. It's always busy and I've lost count of how many accidents we've had here over the years.
