Looking up to the night sky and seeing stars is one of life's greatest every day treasures. It never gets old to go out in the backyard and just stare into the sky for minutes on end. It's even more special when you get the rare chance to see the Aurora Borealis.

That chance could happen this weekend in Western New York; and across New York State.

According to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Aurora Borealis will be visible for much of the northern United States, including New York State. All of New York State will be able to see it, weather permitting of course.

The sad news is much of the state will see cloud cover this weekend with rain showers and cold fronts moving through, but if you get breaks in the clouds at night, make sure to take a look up because you never know if you'll see a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

I have never seen the Northern Lights, unfortunately, but it looks gorgeous based on all the photos and videos I have seen.

This event will bring a view of it from the lower horizon to areas such as Tennessee and North Carolina, which is extra special.

Here in Western New York, we have rain showers that will be with us on and off from Friday afternoon to early Sunday, so it might be a tough task. I'm praying for breaks in the clouds, so locals can see this though.
