100 Funniest Movies. They Nailed It: Part Two of Two
Yesterday, I told you about the Yahoo! Movies’ “100 Funniest Movies to See Before You Die” list and shared with you the titles I thought were missing. In case you missed Yahoo!’s list, here it is again.
Today, I’d like to talk about what they got right. It was hard to only select 10, but I did my best.
Here’s what they nailed:
1. Austin Powers:
International Man of Mystery. We knew Mike Myers was funny, but I didn’t realize his potential until this movie. I’m glad he got some props.
2. Blazing Saddles:
Can anyone really argue with this? It’s genius.
3. Bring it On:
My husband will be so pissed that this made this list. I was happy, yet surprised to see it there. It resonated with me because I was a cheerleader for four years in high school, but it’s also really funny. And I know my husband thinks so. He’ll just never admit it.
4. A Christmas Story:
A staple in our household. The 24-hour marathon of this movie at Christmas never gets old.
5. Clueless:
I feel like this is the movie of my generation. And it’s not just for chicks, either. Don’t tell him I told you, but when it’s on, I hear my husband laughing even though he’s “not watching it.”
6. Dumb & Dumber:
My go-to movie when I need a laugh. It’s a dumb movie. That’s what makes it so awesome. And I’m glad it’s not discriminated against for being so dumb. And I’m also glad they’re making a sequel. I just hope it doesn’t suck.
7. Ghostbusters:
An instant hit. It wasn’t just Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis that made this movie great. They had help from Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.
8. Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure:
When the list came out, this was the first movie I was looking for. I remember seeing this in the theater when I was little. My life was forever changed. Pee-Wee was my hero. In a way, he kind of still is.
9. Soapdish:
This is my sleeper pick. I’m guessing a lot of you don’t know this movie, but I saw it when I was a kid. It’s essentially a soap opera within a soap opera. I haven’t seen it in years, but I remember it being pretty funny, even though I’m sure I didn’t understand all the jokes.
10. Zoolander.
Ben Stiller is sometimes referred to an actor that you either love or hate, but it’s hard to hate him in this movie. “Mer-man!” Classic. Owen Wilson’s not too shabby either.
