More Bills Staff in High Demand For NFL Openings
The Bills have yet to play their first playoff game this year, but the rest of the league is already trying to take pieces of their success. Earlier today the Chicago Bears, who fired head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace, requested permission to interview Bills Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frasier.
Now, the team's front office is the target. The New York Giants, who announced that GM Dave Gettleman was "Retiring" after 4 years on the job, have reached out to the Bills to request permission to interview their Assistant GM Joe Schoen.
Schoen has been the assistant GM for Buffalo since 2017. Before that, he was the Director of Player Personnel for the Miami Dolphins from 2014-2017. He was also a national scout for the Dolphins for the 5 previous seasons. Schoen started his career as an intern in the Carolina Panthers ticket office.
There is already a "Giant" connection between Schoen and the Giants. Bill Parcells, the Hall-of-Fame former New York Giants Head Coach, was the one who brought Schoen to the Dolphins.
Parcells told The Athletic:
Bills General Manager Brandon Beane said in 2019 of Schoen "He's going to be a GM". Bean went on to say that Schoen was perfecting his craft, so when opportunity knocked for a GM role, he would be ready.
The Giants are tied with the New York Jets for the worst record in the NFL since the Bean/Schoen tandem took over in Buffalo. It's no wonder they are now looking upstate for some help.
