Bills fans are ready to see their team back on the field this week. A lot of us have a bad taste in our mouths since the last time they played. That loss to the Patriots is going to sting for awhile. However, this week when the Bills take the field in Atlanta, they're going to be doing something that they haven't done for 4 years.

This is a year to honor tradition

The 2025 season is set to be the last one at the original Highmark Stadium as the Bills prepare to move across the street to their brand new stadium in 2026. So, they have dedicated this season to honoring everything from the Buffalo Bills past. That includes some of the uniforms that the Bills have worn.

The "standing buffalo" was only the main helmet for one season at Highmark Stadium

Throughout the years, the Bills have had multiple helmet combinations. Normally they would have a main helmet, and then over the last couple of years, they've been able to incorporate a "throwback" helmet during a game or two throughout the season.

In the 1962-63 season, the Bills moved from a blue and silver helmet to a white helmet with a red standing buffalo. That was the first helmet the Bills wore when they took the field for the first pre-season game at what is now known as Highmark Stadium in 1973. The following year, they changed to the charging buffalo.

The Bills are bringing back history this weekend

In 2005, the Bills wore a standing buffalo helmet and throwback uniform to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Bills winning the AFL Championship in 1965. It has made an appearance in their uniform combinations over the past couple years, but it hasn't shown up since 2021.

This week, it will be back. The Bills will once again be wearing their standing buffalo helmets when they take on the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night football.

To make it even cooler, the Falcons will also be wearing their throwback unis. They will have red helmets on like they used to wear in the 80's and 90's.
