Former Buffalo Sabre Rob Ray Named To Unique List
The Buffalo Sabres were once full of All-Stars, Playmakers, Hall of Famers and now you can add All-Time fighters to the list.
Former Buffalo Sabre Rob Ray was recently named the number 2 overall best fighter on a Top 10 All-Time fighter in the NHL.
Ray was only topped by former Detriot Redwing and Chicago Blackhawk player Bob Probert who came in at #1 on the list.
Rob Ray played for the Buffalo Sabres from 1998 until 2003. He was drafted by the Sabres in the 5th round of the 1998 draft.
Ray was so good at fighting that the NHL adopted a new rule about jerseys during fights that was nicknamed "The Rob Ray Rule" The NHL created the rule that specifically states that "a player who engages in fisticuffs and whose sweater is not properly 'tied-down', and who loses his sweater in that altercation, shall receive a game misconduct."
During his career with the Buffalo Sabres, Ray amassed 3,189 penalty minutes, mostly from fights.
He was so known for his fighting on the ice that Ray appeared in a TV commercial for ESPN. He appeared in a "This Is Sportscenter" commercial where he acted as security at the station and beats up a courier after he says he can't show his ID.
Also on the list include a player that every Buffalo Sabre fan loves to hate. Former Toronto Maple Leaf Tie Domi came in 8th on the list.
