Hilarious Buffalo Sabres Fan Made Jersey
Well, it's sort of fan-made. The name plate is, anyway. The Sabres have, unfortunately, had a lot of player turnover during this 14-year playoff drought. That means if you bought a jersey for a player, it may be obsolete pretty quickly. This isn't uncommon in pro sports. Players move on, get released, or get traded, making their jersey for their former team no longer relevant. So, as a fan, what are you to do?
If a new player takes the number of a former player, what should you do? Some people try to sell the jersey at a discount. Others rip off the old nameplate. Some buy that new player's name plate and pay someone to remove the old and apply the new. You could also learn to do that yourself. This guy had a cheap, low-effort, but hilarious way of fixing this issue.
The number 9 has been a popular number with the Sabres, especially when Jack Eichel wore it. He caused his own jersey number controversy when he changed from 15 to 9. That's becoming common in sports as well: players suddenly changing numbers. When Eichel was traded away, the number 9 eventually went to Zack Benson. Then the Sabres traded for Josh Norris, who wanted the number. So this offseason, Benson and Norris did a little swap, with Benson now number 6 and Noriss now number 9.
Still here? Good, because here's the payoff. A guy who had an Eichel Jersey has a solution for all the name changes for number 9. Here's what he did:
I don't know about it, but I think this is perfect execution LOL. Honestly, jerseys are so expensive. Why throw away a perfectly good one just because players go away or change numbers? Instead of getting rid of it, buying a new one, or going through he effort and possible cost of changing the name plates, just tape over it! It's funny, and I hope to bump into this guy at a game this season to compliment him.
Personally, I always buy jerseys with no name, players that are legends, or obscure names that are just fun. I have a Jiri Novotny jersey hanging out that I like to wear on occasion because it's fun. This way, though, the jersey is timeless, and I don't feel the pressure to buy new ones all the time. Well, really, it's that I'm cheap LOL.
