The Buffalo Sabres remain one of the best teams in the NHL, and tonight, if they beat the New York Islanders, they will do something they haven't done since the 2009-10 season: they will get 100 regular-season points.
The win could also be a major win as well, especially if Carolina and Tampa Bay lose. The Sabres are in a three-way tie with the Lightning and Hurricanes for 1st place in the Eastern Conference. With a win tonight, the Sabres will guarantee themselves a chance to win the conference and the Atlantic division.
Buffalo Sabres Magic Number To Make The Playoffs
The odds of the Buffalo Sabres making the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season is right around 99.99%. Their official magic number to secure a playoff spot is 7 points. Any combination of Sabres wins and losses by teams on the playoff bubble will get the Sabres into the playoffs.

The earliest the Sabre could clinch a playoff spot would be this Thursday night in Ottawa against the Senators. Chances are that won't happen since a lot of teams would have to lose tonight and before Thursday Night.
