With a record amount of snow falling in Buffalo and Western New York in the last 24 hours, school districts around the area are starting to announce if they are going to be open or closed while the region cleans up.
According to the National Weather Service, more than 16 inches of snow has officially fallen at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. That snowfall has broken the previous daily total by almost double.
Multiple school districts across Western New York have announced they are closing on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, including The City of Niagara Falls Schools and Grand Island.
While some districts are closing others, like the Buffalo Public Schools, are announcing that they will be open.
As the largest school district in the Buffalo area, with roughly 33,000 students, this decision will have a major impact on the decision-making process for the remaining districts that have not yet announced their intention.
