Buffalo Parade Grand Marshall Just Set An Amazing Record

The St. Patrick's Day parade in Buffalo is one of the biggest and best days in the 716 every year. Because of the pandemic, we have missed out on one of Buffalo's greatest traditions. But this year, the parade is back and better than ever!

When March 19th arrives in Buffalo, there will be one person who can say they hold a very unique record. According to parade organizers and the St. Patrick's Parade website:

The United Irish American Association (UIAA) elected Patrick D. McGuinness of Lockport as Grand Marshal for the 2020 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. After two years of cancellation, he will finally have his chance to march up Delaware Avenue. Patrick McGuinness is a record holder and is the only Grand Marshal in the history of St. Patrick’s Day Parade’s in Buffalo to say he held the title of Grand Marshal for three years. The longest once in a lifetime honor!

According to reports, the parade will also have a patriotic feel to it. The event is set to take place March 20th along Delaware Avenue. The theme of this year's celebration is "Hail to St. Patrick! God Bless America & Support Our Troops. Honor Our Frontline Workers."

It has been over two years since the last St. Patrick's Day parade in Buffalo. COVID-19 restrictions have kept us from gathering together for one of the biggest days of the year in Buffalo. It is always fun and a great way to see our community and celebrate the great Irish heritage that we have here in Western New York. I have been going to the parade since I was a kid and it is a tradition that I hope to continue with our kids.
