Canadian Border to Remain Closed

The U.S. Canadian border will remain closed, at least for now. The ban on travel across the border, which is due to COVID-19, has been extended.

The U.S. Canadian border will remain closed for another month. According to WKBW, it will stay closed to travel until September 21, at least.

"We continue to work with our Canadian and Mexican partners to slow the spread of COVID-19. Accordingly, we have agreed to extend the limitation of non-essential travel at our shared land ports of entry through September 21." U.S. Department of Homeland Security acting Secretary Chad Wolf via WKBW

The border has been closed to non-essential travel for 5-months, since March 20.  Border crossings are still permitted for commercial purposes and will continue. Canada is enforcing its COVID-19 precautions with fines of up to $750,000 or jail time.  Travelers who cross into Canada must quarantine for two weeks.

According to BBC News, people with American tags on their cars have been harassed, while in Canada.  There have also been some reports of vandalism to American's vehicles in Canada.  While I do wish the border could open, I understand why Canadians don't want it open.  The U.S. has closed its borders to so many, so we should understand Canada doing the same.
