Buffalo Sabres Legend Comes Out In Support Of Kamala Harris
Election Day has arrived in the United States, and millions of Americans will cast their votes for President.
One of the greatest Buffalo Sabres of all time has made it clear who he is supporting.
Yesterday, we found out Buffalo Bills Legend Thurman Thomas is supporting Kamala Harris in this year's election; read more about that by CLICKING HERE. Now, another Buffalo sports legend is also supporting Harris. Dominik Hasek posted this on X last night.
Arguably the greatest goaltender in NHL history, Hasek was the first Sabre to win the Hart Trophy for the most valuable player. His odd style and incredible flexibility made him one of, if not the most, dominating goalies in NHL history.
This should come as no surprise. Hasek has been outspoken for years against Donald Trump, Russia's war with Ukraine, and several other issues considered by many to be left-leaning. Hasek lobbied the NHL to ban Russian players after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Hasek is from Pardubice, Czechia. He also currently lives in Czechia. We don't know if he has US citizenship and, thus, if he can or has cast a vote. He simply made his support of Harris public.
Hasek's number 39 is hung in the rafters of KeyBank Center. No other Sabres player can wear it. He was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2014.
Meanwhile, another former Sabre, Jack Eichel, was recently at a Trump rally in Las Vegas, where he currently plays.
Eichel was picked second overall by the Sabres in the 2015 NHL Draft. He was traded to Las Vegas after a medical dispute where he wanted a specific surgery for a neck injury. The procedure he wanted, at the time, was considered experimental. Due to NHL rules, where the teams are allowed to approve or deny any medical procedure for their players, the Sabres were allowed to stop him from getting the surgery. The team preferred a more commonly done fusion procedure. Eichel believed he should be able to choose what is done to his body.
This resulted in the Sabres trading him to Las Vegas, where he won a Stanley Cup. He has become more of an infamous figure in Buffalo sports history.
Hasek also has a rocky past with Sabres fans. One in particular was after he was traded to Detroit, where he won 2 Stanley Cups and famously said he would be a Red Wings Forever. This upset some Sabres fans, as he seemed to be shunning his time in Buffalo, where he became the player he is.
