In what was a surreal scene early Sunday morning in downtown Buffalo that looked like some sort of accident, turned out to be the opposite.

A male driver crashed his car into the entrance of the Bottoms Up bar on Chippewa just before 4:30 a.m. Security discharged their guns but police say nobody was struck by the gunfire.

Some patrons and the driver were injured but nothing appears to be serious.

The driver is in Buffalo Police custody and it appears the driver drove his car through the bar on purpose.

Bottoms Up posted a statement on their Facebook page:

"an individual who was denied entry to our establishment earlier in the evening, drove his vehicle through our front doors with an intent to cause damage, and to possibly harm the staff who would not allow him onto the premises earlier."

The bar says they will reopen on Thursday and thank the staff and security for their actions in the incident Sunday.
