As the summer rolls on, there are some who are calling on New York State to lower the blood alcohol content limits and other laws pertaining to drunk or impaired driving.

The Independence Day weekend is here in The United States and there is so much to do! This will be the first Independence Day since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic started over two years ago and police in New York State have a reminder for those who plan to be on the road to start July.

Travelers can expect to see increased police patrols as part of a STOP-DWI campaign that runs from today through July 5th. Anyone who sees suspicious or dangerous activity while they're traveling should dial 911 immediately.

The STOP-DWI legislation permits each of the State’s 62 counties to establish a county STOP-DWI program which, in turn, will qualify the county for the return of all DWI fines collected for alcohol and other drug-related traffic offenses occurring within its jurisdiction.

There really is no reason for anyone to drink and drive. With the many ride share options and public transportation available, if you plan to drink, plan a ride and keep safe this holiday weekend.

There are some who are calling on New York State to change the laws and limits for drinking and driving. In a Tweet from this past month, MADD urged New York State to lower the BAC threshold.

Among the request, MADD calls on The Empire State to,

...lower of the DWI threshold from 0.08% to 0.05 blood alcohol content, a move MADD said could result in a decline in roadway deaths.
