Metallica's Long History in Buffalo
As you can see when you enter to win, we want to hear your Metallica memories. To help jog your memory, let's take a trip down memory lane with Metallica in Buffalo, shall we?
Metallica first played Buffalo on Aug. 3, 1983 at the Rooftop Skyroom. This was a week after they released Kill 'Em All, so you can imagine the energy of that show. They opened with "Hit the Lights" and closed out their set with a three-song encore including "Seek & Destroy," "Metal Militia" and "Motorbreath."
Less than two years later, they invaded the Salty Dog Saloon on Jan. 20, 1985 along with W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint. Then, the big show came to town when they joined Van Halen's Monsters of Rock at Rich Stadium on June 19, 1988.

The love for Buffalo continues; on March 13, 1989, they played Buffalo Memorial Auditorium with Queensrÿche and then on Dec. 3, 1991, they came back to the auditorium on the Wherever We May Roam tour.
You might remember not long after that show, Metallica brought Guns N' Roses and Faith No More back to Rich Stadium on July 25, 1992. Were you there?
Then on March 25, 1997, Marine Midland Arena hosted Metallica, followed by their show at HSBC Arena on Oct. 10, 2004. They returned to HSBC on Nov. 10, 2009.
It was nearly nine solid years before Metallica made it back to Buffalo, but they did on Oct. 27, 2018, when they played KeyBank Center on the Worldwired tour, celebrating Hardwired...to Self-Destruct.
The last time Metallica came through town was on Aug. 11, 2022, when they filled Highmark Stadium. Pat McMahon and Loudwire Nights' Chuck Armstrong were there, rocking out from the opening of "Whiplash" to the show-ender "Master of Puppets."
What Can You Expect From Metallica in 2027?
Metallica's M72 World Tour has traversed the globe for the last few years, starting in Amsterdam on April 27, 2023 and most recently closing things out in London on July 5, 2026.
If this list from Loudwire is any indication, you can start to put together your own hopeful setlist for Metallica's show in Buffalo next year. The caveat here is unlike most of the gigs on the M72 tour, they're not playing multiple shows in each city; so expect a night filled with the hits and probably a few surprises!
