As we move into May and quickly approach summer, Erie County is headed back down the same path we took a few months ago. Our COVID-19 positivity rate is still considered high. We have an almost 25 percent positivity rate as of May 2, 2022. The CDC updated Erie County’s COVID-19 community level to “high,” and it remains at that level. According to the Erie County Department of Health,

Total cases through May 2: 229,324. Positivity rate was 23.9%. 7-day positivity rate was 21.9%

On May 2, there were 724 new COVID-19 cases. Within the past 7 days ending May 2, there were almost 5,000 new cases of COVID-19 (4,917).

Cases are definitely increasing in Erie County according to the previous data reported in an email I received from the ECDOH,

ECDOH confirmed 716 new COVID-19 cases for April 25, and 4,121 total cases over the past 7 days. Total new cases per 100,000 Erie County residents over the past 7 days: 432. Total cases through April 25: 224,407. Positivity rate was 24.3%. 7-day positivity rate was 18.5%.

The positivity rate in the county has increased for the seventh straight week. In April, 16 Erie County residents died from COVID-19. Their age ranges were as follows: 40 to 49 - 1 death, 60 to 69 - 3 deaths, 70 to 79 - 5 deaths, 80 and older - 7 deaths.
