Fan Favorite Likely To Play a Bigger Role on The Buffalo Bills In 2021
The Buffalo Bills are officially over a week into training camp and storylines are already taking shape as the Bills gear up for their first preseason game since 2019 when they face the Detroit Lions next Friday night in Motor City.
One of the biggest question marks going into training camp was who would take on the kick and punt return duties?
Andre Roberts is gone (signed a free-agent deal with the Houston Texans) and it's a blow because Roberts was excellent at gaining great field position for the Bills offense.
However, judging by training camp thus far, it appears the Bills have their answer in the way of a fan favorite.
According to the special teams coordinator Heath Farwell, wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie is in the top spot for the return job in 2021.
The competition was an open one between free-agent wide receiver Brandon Powell and rookie draft pick Marquez Stevenson, but it looks like McKenzie has taken full control of the job.
McKenzie had a breakout game in week 17 of 2020 against the Miami Dolphins when he returned a punt for a touchdown and also caught two more from quarterback Josh Allen.

McKenzie is a lock to make the team Buffalo's fifth wide receiver and he looks to have the return job, too.
He's a classic example of a player working as hard as possible to earn a spot on the team and that shouldn't go unnoticed since this Bills team is loaded with talent; as is McKenzie.
It should be fun watching him return kicks and punts this season, even though the job hasn't been officially won yet.
