New York Giants Raid Bills Coaching Staff Again
In addition to looking for a new Assistant General Manager and Offensive Coordinator, you can add looking for a new Offensive Line Coach to the Buffalo Bills off-season to-do list.
The New York Giants, who have already hired former Bills Assistant General Manager Joe Schoen to be their new GM, dipped into the Bills coaching staff over the weekend when they hired Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll to be their new Head Coach. And they aren't stopping there, as it is now being reported that the team has hired Bills Offensive Line Coach Bobby Johnson to the same position in East Rutherford, reuniting him with Schoen and Daboll.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic stoked the fires of this move yesterday on Twitter.
Johnson has been here in Buffalo for the last three seasons as offensive line coach. In his first season, 2019, the Bills offensive line was in need of a rebuild and he did so with four new starters. The same scenario could play out with the Giants, as LT Andrew Thomas may be the only holdover from the team's 2021 offensive line.
Johnson started his NFL coaching career with the Bills in 2010 as the team's assistant offensive line coach (Pictured above in 2011) and has made stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, and Indianapolis Colts before returning to the Bills in 2019. Johnson did an incredible patchwork job with the Bills line in 2021, as only Center Mitch Morse started every game at the same position.
The Athletic has reported that Johnson’s contract with the Bills was up, which allows him to make a lateral move in the NFL without the Bills being able to block him from moving on.
