Over the weekend, I had a chance to check out the National Comedy Center in Jamestown.  It was even better than I thought it might be.

My son has really gotten into stand up comedy over the last couple years and it's something we both share.  I've always loved it.

Right off the bat, the experience is incredibly personal.  You check into a kiosk with your wrist band and start to tell them a little bit about yourself so they can aim the best experience at you.  You choose your favorite comedians, tv shows, and movies. Then, as you walk through the museum they will gear certain stand up routines to you.

We were super excited that as soon as we got there, they had a hologram "show" with Jim Gaffigan.  We are both really big fans and it was pretty cool to see a hologram.  We've never seen one before!

There was a lounge area where we stopped for a quick drink and watched a video that gave you a bit of insight into how comics deal with "hecklers."

Then on to some very interactive exhibits that showed how props are used in comedy and how comics are connected to each other.

There was a part that looked like a library where you could sit at desks and look at scripts from some of your favorite movies and shows.

There was a movie room where you could go in and watch parts of famous movies.  A room where you could do "Comedy Karaoke" and perform some of your favorite routines.  There's a green screen room where you can recreate some of your favorite scenes.

It was just awesome.  We had so much fun.

Want to check it out?  They will be open:

  • 10am – 5pm, Sunday through Friday
  • 10am – 8pm on Saturday.

Seriously, I could tell you all about it, but would encourage you to go and see it for yourself.  It was very well done and incredibly interactive.  If you're looking for something to do while the weather is cold, get out of your house and check it out.   You won't regret it.
