A geek by definition is an unfashionable or socially inept person. Being a geek in 2022 has taken on a new meaning of being passionate about what you enjoy, and sharing that passion with others, whether it’s trendy or not.

The geek has come a long way since the term was first used in the 1910s to describe sideshow freaks in circuses.  Nowadays, comics, video games, trading cards, board games, costume shops (for cosplayers), Comic-Cons, sports stats, and Renaissance festivals are all considered a part of the geek universe.

The culture has gotten to the point where you can even celebrate your geekdom on Geekness Day, July 13th.

The website Lawn Love ranked 2022’s Geekiest Cities in the US.  So, just how geeky is Buffalo, New York? They looked at the factors mentioned above and found the ideal spots in the country for gamers, tech wizards, or those just looking to live out their geeky dreams.

Of the 200 cities in America that they looked at, Buffalo wound up in the top half of the list, checking in at number 62 with an overall score of 9.40.   Buffalo ranked 27th in collectibles access, 97th in costume access, 56th in community rank, and 18th in events. Places like Dragon Snack Games, Collector's Inn, Oogie Games, and Queen City Bookstore all help to keep Buffalo's geekdom alive and well.

Our neighbors to the east, Rochester, New York, ranked 45th overall, Rochester ranked 73rd in collectibles access, 76th in costume access, 56th in community rank, and 30th in events.
