One of the biggest high school rivalries in New York State will soon be over and here is why.

The Lancaster Redskins / Legends and Depew Wildcats rivalry has been going on for a record setting amount of years. In fact, it is one of the longest and biggest rivalries in the United States--starting in 1919.

It sounds like Lancaster is still willing to keep it going, but Depew is not.

On Monday, Lancaster Central School District reaffirmed its commitment to one of Western New York's (and the nation's) longest-standing athletic traditions — the annual Lancaster-Depew Week and football game", according to the Lancaster Bee.

Why is the Lancaster Depew rivalry going to end?

There was a board meeting for Depew on Tuesday night where they discussed the end of the rivalry between Lancaster and Depew. The board noted that they have notified Section 6 of the change and will play 2 more rivalry games before ending the legendary matchup.

You can't ignore the very lopsided amount of players on either side. Depew has far less players. It is unclear if this is the only reason why.
