The Buffalo Sabres got back in the win column again today with a win over Florida, then soon after traded for two defensemen from Pittsburgh.

The Sabres Made A Trade For Two Defensemen From Pittsburgh

The Sabres announced that they traded defenseman Ryan Johnson today for defensemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Johnson was a first round pick by the Sabres in 2019.

Who are Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch?

Jones is a 29-year-old veteran with a left shot. He was a fourth-round pick in 2015 and has three points in four games this season in the AHL. He's played in 255 career NHL games.

Laatsch is also a lefty. He was a seventh-round pick in 2021. He's played in 10 AHL games last season.

The trade has people wondering how long Dahlin will be out

The Sabres mentioned in their announcement that they will help to provide depth, with Rasmus Dahlin being day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Dahlin was able to crush a one-timer this afternoon in the second period before getting injured in the third and not returning to the game.

There was a common theme right away in the comments on social media asking how long Dahlin would actually be out. Many of them assumed that for the Sabres to make a trade like this, they must really need depth.

Day-to-day doesn't normally reflect a long-term injury like week-to-week or even month-to-month will. We obviously hope Dahlin is able to get back as soon as possible.

The Sabres will be back on the ice tomorrow night (10/13) as they head to Montreal to take on the Canadiens at 6:30 pm.
