If you haven't noticed, the cold weather has returned to Western New York. Those cold temperatures, coupled with a warm Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, mean that it's also bringing a ton of snow with it thanks to a lake effect snowstorm that is impacting several parts of the Buffalo area, including heavy snow falling in the Southtowns.

The snow falling in Western New York is terrible enough that it's caused officials to issue travel advisories all over the region because getting around has gotten so complicated.

That snow is causing problems for people all over the area, with some people upset that it's winter again. However, one group of Western New Yorkers isn't only glad it's snowing but flat-out delighted to watch the lake effect snow bands blow into Buffalo.

Ski Resorts Welcome Lake Effect Snow As They Get Ready To Open

Ski resorts all over Western New York have let out a collective sigh once the flakes started to fly in the 716 and 585.

While some resorts have started making snow as weather conditions have become more favorable for artificial snow, there's nothing like the natural white stuff that falls from the sky. The lake effect snow bands help as more falls than we see during a general snowfall.

Officials from Kissing Bridge, Holiday Valley, Peek'n Peak, the Buffalo Ski Center, and more are preparing for the opening of the 2023/24 ski season. Many ski resorts around Western New York target a potential opening date of Friday, December 1, 2023.

I know I am one of them, and I can't wait to hit the slopes. Hopefully, the temperatures will stay low for the balance of the year so we can get a good base of snow on the mountains.

Are you as excited as the rest of us are for the arrival of the snow ski season?
