Where To Get Rid Of Your Old Pumpkins In Western New York
The seasons are changing in Western New York. Christmas music is playing on the radio, and the Halloween decorations are coming down. The biggest question is what to do with those pumpkins and Jack-o'-lanterns that have graced your porch for the past couple of weeks. Now you can chunk them out with the Erie County Pumpkin Dump.
Erie County Hosting Pumpkin Dump This Week
If you don't want to just toss your pumpkins in the trash where they can rot, smell, and attract critters, you can dump them off at various spots in Erie County, and they will be turned into compost.
Those old pumpkins still have a lot of nutrients and can be used to help grow things as compost.
The pumpkin dump event will take place starting Friday, November 6th and go through the weekend. There are several locations to drop off your pumpkins. You can find a spot near you HERE.
Erie County is also asking that you only donate pumpkins that have not been painted or have had candles in them. This can contaminate the pumpkin, and it is not good for the compost.
They will also be hosting a special “Squash Drop-n-Chop” event on Saturday, November 7, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM at the Pelion Garden.
