Every Sabres Fan Will Want To Be At The KeyBank Center on March 10th
It's pretty safe to say that the Buffalo Sabres will not be making the playoffs this season.
They're 20 points out of the final wild card position in the Eastern Conference, and would mark the 11th straight year without the postseason for Sabres fans.
The good news for Sabres fans is that the team is playing better than last year, but it's also much more fun to watch the team this year, with the likes of Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, Dylan Cozens, Victor Olofsson and prospects like Peyton Krebs, Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka.
While going to Sabres games in Downtown Buffalo might not be the hottest ticket right now, Sabres fans most definitely want to get down to the arena for one game in particular this season, and it's about one month away.
The Vegas Golden Knights play in Buffalo against the Sabres on Thursday, March 10th, and that very well means that former Sabres captain and star center, Jack Eichel will make his return to Buffalo.
Eichel was traded to the Golden Knights on November 4th of 2021, for forwards Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs, along with a 2022 first round pick and a 2023 third round pick.
Eichel had artificial disc replacement surgery soon after getting traded to Vegas, and back on January 15th, Golden Knights owner Bill Foley said Eichel would be back "in a few weeks."
Eichel has been skating with the team, but not quite ready to play in a full contact game. The hope is Eichel will be back sometime this month, which means he should be back by March 10th for his return to Buffalo.
I know I have to go to that game. I'm curious to see the reaction Eichel gets from the crowd at KeyBank Center, and the overall atmosphere in the arena that night. Eichel's disdain for the franchise was well documented, and did not want to go through another rebuild. He also disagreed with the Sabres on which surgery to get. Sabres wanted the fusion surgery, while Eichel wanted the artificial disc replacement.
I know the Sabres are not a good team yet, but if you're a Sabres fan, make sure you try and find a way to be at KeyBank Center on March 10th.
