Watch Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland Jam With Some Friends
Stewart Copeland clearly has some very interesting names in his Rolodex.
As Consequence of Sound notes, the former Police drummer has hosted a series of jam sessions at his studio in recent years, and sometimes, the musicians who end up stopping by are pretty incredible. Take, for instance, the clip above, which finds Copeland working with a group that includes Neil Peart of Rush, Tool's Danny Carey, South Park co-creator Matt Stone and Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon.
The resulting jam, titled "A Little More Noise," finds Copeland and Scannell playing guitar while Peart and Carey play drums and Stone adds some percussion. Through the magic of video editing, you can also see the players who came in later to add a few layers to the song.
"Some new drums arrived so Peart and Carey came over to lay heavy hands upon them," explains Copeland on the video's YouTube page. "Scannell and I banged out any old riffs while Stone chimed the gongs. Couple days later four more drummers dropped by and took up the horns. The piano was an afterthought."
It's all part of a tradition that has found everyone from Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins to Snoop Dogg stopping by Copeland's studio — and while the roster of guests can be impressive, it's all pretty low-key as far as he's concerned.
"I have some buddies come over, and we jam," Copeland told Rolling Stone in 2012. "We jam high, we jam low, we have a wonderful time, we have a lot of laughs, they leave. And then the next morning, I come in and see what I've got. And then I cut up these jams and add overdubs, and I turn these jams into tracks."
