Louie’s in Cheektowaga is Being Replaced By Popeyes
A while back, we were all saddened by the news that a local establishment that was the site of many late-night memories was closing for good. Now, we know what will be taking the place of the former Louie's Texas Red Hots in Cheektowaga.
If you live in the area, you may recall getting a letter in the mail about a year ago, saying that there was going to be a special public hearing. The boilerplate notice seemed like the run-of-the-mill governmental mailing that most of us ignore. But the purpose behind "Public Hearing - Special Use Permit - Chapter 260 Zoning - 4890 Transit Rd." was to discuss the closing of a long time Louie's Texas Red Hots location, and to pave the way for what was to come next.
And now, next is here. A Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken drive-through location is now under development at Transit Road, where Louie’s Texas Red Hots shut its doors for good in February of 2022. Popeye's, the national chicken chain, was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, and now has over 3,400 locations, including 5 in the greater Buffalo area, as well as 4 in Rochester, New York.
Speaking of Popeye's in Rochester, we would be remiss if we didn't bring up this blast from the past when the Popeye's on Lake Avenue ran out of chicken back in 2009.
Popeye's has gained major attention nationally over the last few years, since they launched their Chicken Sandwich in 2019, and started the great Chicken Sandwich war with rival Chick-fil-A.
It just so happens that there is a Chic-fil-A just 6 miles away from the soon-to-be Popeye's location. So you will be able to judge the battle of the chicken sandwiches for yourself.
